לגבי התשובה של מירל - היא מאד מפורטת אך עבורי למשל היא מעט מבלבלת. בעיקר היא מבהירה שטווח המחירים רחב מאד.
באופן אישי אני גובה בין 500 - 600 ש"ח לאיור כפולה בספר ילדים רגיל, הכוונה לספר שהאיורים בו תופסים מקום מרכזי (picture book).

זה דיון ארוך ומעניין על תנאי העבודה למאיירים בארץ, כדאי מאד לקרוא הכל, בעמ. 4-3 יש מחירים של מאיירים שונים.
אני חושבת שאי אפשר באמת לשמור על שכר "הוגן", לכל אחד יש אמות מידה שונות לגבי מה שרווחי עבורו.
מאייר מתחיל יוצא נשכר גם מהנסיון, לכן הגיוני שיסכים לעבוד תמורת סכום נמוך יותר.
החשוב בעיניי הוא שתהיה למאיירים יכולת בחירה המבוססת על ידע ולא על ניחושים. כלומר שכולם ידעו כמה משלמים, מה הגיוני ומקובל, ואם הם מחליטים לקחת פחות - זה יהיה במודע ולא מחוסר הבנה, או כדי לרצות את הלקוח שאומר ש"זה יקר מדי".
לגבי סקיצות בחינם - זו שיטה מאד מאד מכעיסה. הבעיה שהיא השתרשה גם בבתי ההוצאה הגדולים בארץ, כמו זמורה-ביתן או עם עובד.
אני חושבת שכדאי להסכים רק אם אין ברירה. ההוצאות הגדולות לפחות מציעות בתמורה את הסיכוי לעבוד בצורה מקצועית ולקבל שכר סביר.
לקוח פרטי שרוצה לשלם 300 ש"ח עבור איור כפולה ומוציא את ספרו בהוצאה לא מוכרת - לא מציע הרבה בתמורה, ולדעתי לא כדאי לתת לו עבודה בחינם.

in the last time I received information that our site is visited by a lot of people and between them some are asking from the Illustrators Association members 1-2 free samples (dugma hinam) even that their work is only 15-25 illustrations. They send in the same time a letter to many illustrators; the last ones signaled are a small publisher of mystic books and a ...physiotherapist!

In the last time I received two major observation to point that the prices are lower than the communicated prices till now:
A leading experienced illustrator told me that after about 60 books, the highest price that she/he may get from all the important Israeli publisher is 5000 shekels for a 24 pages children book including cover, well known writers and sometimes she/he has to to compromise for 4500sh.
An offer of 18$/ small/medum drawing for schoolbooks was proposed to 5 very well known leading illustrators by an important publishing house and all accepted the price. However no one of them received the command for unknown reasons .

For 13 illustrations double spreads, elaborate elegant style, children book of 24 pages, 2500$ paid by the author
For about 10-12 large illustrations, elaborate classic style, children book of 24 pages, 1800$ paid by the publisher
For 17 large illustrations, cartoon style, children book of 32 pages, 350sh/drawing paid by the author
For a large quantity of black and white drawings, schoolbook, editorial realist style, a lot of corrections, 40$/drawing
For a large drawing and two details, elaborate elegant style, for a large international project, fairytale book [with participation of 60 illustrators from 60 different countries] , 200 euro (about 1100 sh) paid by an European publisher
After this second letter I received more information:
The one of the leading Israeli Publisher House is ready to pay 6500 shekels for drawings for a children book of 24 pages including cover ; the same publisher is paying 80-100$/ for a single drawing of 1 page (up to A4).
Other illustrators confirm a payment of about 650$/children book by other publisher .
A drawing for a wedding "ketouba" was paid 2oo$. Here I believe that nobody will accuse the illustrator if the marriage go wrong, so any kind of payment is welcome.
The "real" price for a page of comics made by a leading Israeli illustrator would be 400-500$, but it is known also that 130-150$ would be accepted by some illustrators if it is a large quantity (more than 40 pages).
A comic page "published" in the internet (without losing the rights!) was paid 200sh/page to the young illustrators.

Client: Israeli publishing house
Asking illustrator price for children books
full color ("4 tzvaim"):
spot/"parit" 12-15-20$ for at least 70 drawings minimum
small drawing 20 - 30$ for at least 70 drawings minimum
complex drawing, at least 2 heroes, action, up to 1/4 page 25-40$ minimum
complex drawing of 1/2 page 40-70$ minimum
1 page 70- 100$ minimum
Double spread 100-160 $ minimum
Cover 100-250$ minimum
The "naturalist"/airbrush/"with a lot of details" illustrators ask for +20% (at least!) more.
For drawings black and white and "2 colors" the illustrators are ready to reduce from their prices down to -25%.
Publishers proposals:
The publishing houses will try to pay "globali" 500 -700-1000 -1500-3000$ /book, depending on illustrator/book/number of pages/illustrations.
Some will want to pay gladly 40$/illustration and with "pain" 60$/illustration.
The 30-35$/illustration fee for more than 50 illustrations will be a proposal price, for any size of the illustrations.
The 100-150$ for cover is also a proposal price.
The 1500$/book is also a proposal price.
